Changelog

What I've recently added or improved in Nestino.

v1.5 — released

A new website and the app’s own address

This release is mostly about what you see before you sign in. I built a website with pricing, answers to common questions and the privacy rules, and I moved the app to its own address.

Highlights

  • New website: At nestino.cz you will find the feature overview, pricing, my story and a contact form, all in Czech and English.
  • Legal pages: I wrote the privacy policy, GDPR, security and terms pages in plain language, and they link straight to the places in the app where you request your data or delete your account.
  • Blog, changelog and FAQ: The first articles, this changelog and twelve of the most common questions with answers.
  • New app address: The app now runs at app.nestino.cz; old links redirect there automatically for 90 days.
  • Notification devices: In settings you can see which devices have notifications enabled and disconnect any of them.
  • Name and rewards: You can change your display name, default reward settings are now saved to the family and apply on every device, and the rewards page shows progress towards a goal.
v1.4 — released

Notifications, receipts and a guided first setup

The biggest release so far. Besides the new features, I gave the app a new typeface and colours including dark mode, split settings into clear sections and went through it page by page so everything looks consistent.

Highlights

  • Notifications: Nestino sends notifications to your phone or computer; you choose what you want to hear about and set quiet hours when nothing disturbs you.
  • Receipts: Attach a photo of the receipt to any expense straight from your phone, by drag and drop or by picking a file.
  • First run: A new account is walked through a four-step guide: household type, invitations, expense categories, done.
  • Calendar and quick search: See tasks and payments in a monthly calendar or as a day-by-day list, and press Ctrl+K to jump anywhere in the app or create a new record right away.
  • Family and roles: The family page shows who is allowed to do what, and there is a new guest role with limited access for a grandparent or a nanny.
  • Your data and account: In settings you can request a copy of your data or delete your account; the account is permanently removed after seven days.
v1.3 — released

A new look for the whole app

This release adds no features. I rebuilt the look of all sixteen pages so the app looks equally good on a computer and on a phone, in both colour modes.

Highlights

  • New look: Rounded cards, an orange accent colour and a new typeface across the whole app, from sign-in to settings.
  • Phone: Every page has its own mobile layout with bottom navigation, not just a shrunken version of the desktop one.
  • Dark mode: A dark variant exists for every page, including charts that adapt their colours.
  • Checked: I went through every page at both screen sizes and in both modes before letting the release out.
v1.2 — released

Expenses, recurring payments and dark mode

After tasks and rewards came the other half of running a family: money. I also went through every form so it says plainly what went wrong and always asks before deleting anything.

Highlights

  • Expenses: Record expenses with an amount, date and category, filter them by period and category, and see which ones relate to which child.
  • Categories: Fifteen ready-made categories for a Czech household plus your own with an emoji and a colour; parents manage them in settings.
  • Recurring payments: Enter rent, subscriptions or after-school clubs once; Nestino creates the expenses on the due date, reminds you by email, and you can pause them at any time.
  • Monthly overview: A chart shows where the money went in a given month; click a category to see its expenses and switch months with the arrows.
  • Appearance: Switch between light and dark mode, or let Nestino follow your system setting.
  • On your home screen: Add Nestino to your phone home screen like an app; no offline use yet.
v1.1 — released

Family, tasks and rewards

This is the release we actually started using at home. Around the sign-in from the first version grew a whole app with tasks and rewards.

Highlights

  • Family: Create a family, invite your partner by email or with a code and give the kids their own accounts; everyone sees only their own family.
  • Tasks: Create a task, assign it to a child and approve it once it is done; every task shows who changed what and when.
  • Recurring tasks: Set daily, weekly or monthly chores once and Nestino creates them on its own.
  • Rewards: Attach points or money to a task, every member has a balance with history, and a parent can add or deduct by hand.
  • Emails: Reminders before a deadline, approval requests and invitations arrive by email; everyone picks what they want to receive and can unsubscribe with one click.
  • Two languages: The app speaks Czech and English and has a dashboard, tasks, family and rewards.
v1.0 — released

The first version: account and sign-in

A release for a single user, and that user was me. There was nothing to do in it yet except create an account, but it laid the foundation everything else stands on.

Highlights

  • Account: Registration, sign-in and sign-out; you stay signed in until you sign out yourself.
  • Email verification: After registering you get an email with a link to confirm the account.
  • Forgotten password: Set a new password from a link in your email and you are signed in right away.
  • Password safety: Nestino quietly checks whether your password has shown up in a known data breach.
  • Separate data: From the start, each household’s data is kept separate from everyone else’s.
